Varela Hermanos

Varela Hermanos is a fully Panamanian company with over 110 years of experience in the production, distribution, and wholesale of liquor, bulk rum, and denatured alcohol. As the primary national producers of 90% of the country’s liquor, we are renowned for crafting Panama’s national drink, Seco Herrerano, and the internationally acclaimed Ron Abuelo.

At Varela Hermanos, we maintain meticulous control over the entire rum production process. Our estate grows and hand-harvests its own sugar cane, distills the spirit, and ages it on-site. The distillation process merges traditional techniques with modern technology, starting from the sorting and crushing of sugar cane, through juice extraction, straining, and purification.

Our distillery employs a cutting-edge setup that harmoniously combines age-old distilling methods with contemporary techniques. This includes fermenting cane juice with proprietary yeast strains and aging the rum in white oak barrels, ensuring a product of superior quality.

Additionally, Varela Hermanos is dedicated to sustainable agricultural practices. Unlike many distilleries that burn their fields before harvest, we prepare our sugar cane fields manually. This approach not only preserves the quality of the sugar cane but also creates vital employment opportunities within the local community.

Westerhall Rums has been crafting rum since the early 19th century, and we have continually refined our product ever since. Drawing on our rich historical heritage and years of expertise, we offer a deep understanding of traditional rum-making.
